LowCountry Institute
The mission of the LowCountry Institute is to provide responsible leadership in the conservation and use of Lowcountry natural resources – its biodiversity, pristine waters and ecological landscapes – by fostering learning opportunities and helping local policymakers, landowners and residents make informed decisions.
The LowCountry Institute is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
It is ironic that while Spartina alterniflora, is valued in East Coast marshes, in West Coast marshes it is considered a noxious, invasive species because it converts valued mudflat areas into marsh; it is a “weed” that is smothering San Francisco Bay’s mudflats.
